Whether you like walking 2, 4, 6 or 8 miles there is no excuse not to get out and about in Droitwich, where there has always been plenty of opportunities for walking. The opening of the wonderfully restored Junction and Barge canals in July 2011 has given us improved opportunities to discover what is on our doorstep.
On June 5th 2012 96 people walked Droitwich Spa Diamond Jubilee Walk, an eight mile circular walk using 4 miles of canal towpaths and 4 miles of quiet lanes and footpaths. The walk was devised to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee year and was supported by Peter Luff MP and Pam Davey County Councillor. A map and route description can be downloaded from the Ramblers website www.ramblers.org.uk
In December 2012, 35 people walked Droitwich Spa Diamond Jubilee, Hadzor Circular. A 4 mile route along the Junction and Worcester Birmingham canals, across Gaudet Luce Golf club and back to Droitwich through St Peters Fields. This has been signposted by WCC Countryside service.
Both of these walks included people from:
1) Spa Walkers: A branch of the national Walking for Health organisation which meets every week rain or shine on Wednesdays at 10.30 ,outside Droitwich Leisure Centre . An hour’s walk of approximately 2 miles is followed by a sociable chat over a cup of coffee.
